I grew up on a farm in SE Minnesota. It was an old farm with probably close to a century of debris and machinery strewn about in the various sheds, barns, attics, piles, nooks and crannies. I think this created in me an enigmatic and tactile sense of history and stories. I began to attach meanings to the things I found around me. I think this is where I learned my appreciation of collage.

Throughout school I found I could draw fairly well. When I left home for college it was to gain an education in art. I earned my BFA in art from Bemidji State University in northern Minnesota. It was here I became familiar with Dada and the Fluxus movements, etc. While I always have a love of painting and drawing, I found that collages, assemblages, found art, ready mades, etc. had a special fit for me.

After leaving school I have moved around quite a bit, living in Oregon, Colorado, Louisiana, and finally Texas. When I’m not working in my studio I teach science and supplemental education at a local school.
