John Wiese is a California native and a graduate of UCLA. His formal training began in high school and continued on through junior college and university. His interest is primarily in watercolor, and he has studied with Edgar Whitney, Milford Zornes, Rex Brandt, Frank Webb, Pat Deadman and Christopher Schink.

During his 40 year career as an exploration geologist, he has worked over much of the world. Memories, sketches and photographs are the basis of his paintings. His geology training is evident in the credibility of his landforms- mountains, beaches and desert country that are the subject of much of his work.

John has earned signature status in the Nevada and Montana Watercolor Societies and has exhibited in prestigious shows from California to San Antonio. He is an admirer of the western landscapes of Maynard Dixon and Milford Zornes, and his painted with Zornes across the American West. Building on his early experiences doing geologic mapping, his style has developed in the direction of simplified and designed realism, which, he says, “is the way I see the world.”
